| 10/26/2006 Long Time No Update |
So it’s been a while since I last updated the site. For those wondering, Go-Carting was a blast, as was the BBQ, which went fantastically well (Thank you Todd for being our own personal SAE cook that day). Not much new news, outside of continuing work on the Formula Hybrid. I have been working on the website, as it’s currently a black page redirecting to the forum. The site will be up soon with a basic page, and will be updating and have more items introduced as time goes and more information and media is fed to me. Stay tuned for more information about stuff in generally.

SAE will be hosting a BBQ this coming Thursday at the SAE Garage (3240 South Federal Street), from 4:30pm to 6:00pm. Come by, enjoy some great food, check out our projects for this year and chat with some of our members including yours truly.
This Saturday some IIT organization will be hosting a go-cart race at Chicago Indoor Racing. A lot of SAE members will be there to race, so why not join us and some other people we don’t care much about :-D. Tickets will be sold on the bridge in MTCC from 6:15 to 8:00 all week long. |

Progress is being made in the formula hybrid competition. On Monday design system was picked for the formula hybrid. This is great news for the Mechanical team, as we now know what we are designing the chassis for. Chassis design will now move into full motion. Iif you would like to participate in the formula hybrid project, email us or come by on Fridays for the Mechanical Team Meetings. If you would like to join the Electrical Engineering team, try emailing Priscilla Mulhall. |

| 9/10/2006 Forum? Formula Hyrbid? WHAT!? |
Have a big news post for all of you today. Before announcing any of the news, I have admitted that this WILL be an exciting year for SAE. Lots of new things are coming our way, especially on the projects side of things.
Before going into the big news on the project I would like to announce again the introduction of the SAE forum. This would be the 3rd forum change for the website since this time last year. The original forum was simple crap, a more or less half ass implementation of an actually database driven forum. The forum software was the changed to phpbb2 but the largest problem was that the forum was located on a SAE members home computer. The forum was used for quite some time until the server that the forum software was located was shutdown this past summer. Now the software we are running is punbb which is actually located on the official SAE website. This should be finalizing forum software for the SAE website for sometimes. Please feel free to join the forum post some treads and share your ideas. If you have any more questions feel free to use the forum itself to ask.
Finally for the big news, SAE’s new project. For the next 10 months SAE will be taking part in the new Formula Hybrid SAE competition. Sounds like a big jump for the mini Baja, but to help us along we will be working with Professor Emadi’s Electrical Engineering team. If you where not aware, Professor Emadi’s team created the hybrid diesel bus that’s located in the SAE garage. Their knowledge will go into the creation of the hybrid system for the vehicle. We at SAE will be responsible for the creation of all the mechanical aspects of the vehicle. For the next 5 months, a portion of SAE will be involved in the design of the chassis, suspension and other mechanical aspects of the formula hybrid! If you would like more details about this please feel free to email us.
Excited yet? |
